January - A Year Of Shirts

Last year I gave my hairdresser a framed 'ugly Christmas sweater' I'd made. When I had my hair done in January, I noticed that the ugly sweater was still out. I told my hairdresser that it was time for the ugly sweater to go back with the other Christmas decorations. Then he said that it would be fun to have a different shirt each month. So I created 12 suitable shirts along with 12 coordinating names!

February - Personalized Lucy Discs
When my Granddaughter Lucy turned one, I made her a set of 12 discs. Each representing a different month of the year.

February - Hearts A Plenty
For Valentine's Day, I made colorful hearts for Mackenzie, my mom and sister.

March - Quirky Cars
A few years ago, I found myself behind a Nissan Cube at a stoplight. While waiting for the light to change, I spied a small sticker above the car's emblem that said "Ice". The combination, 'Ice Cube' made me laugh out loud. After the Cube sighting, I set out to find how many car models I could pair with a word that, when added before or after the car's name, something fun, like 'ice cube,' would emerge. In the end, I found 73 candidates and compiled them into a book. Available on Lulu if you are interested.

May -Breathe In, Let Go
Meditation has been part of my life for years, and I am continually looking for different ways to calm my busy mind. One day I made a list of negative traits I wanted to eliminate from my life. But I realized I needed positive qualities that could help counteract the negative ones. Ultimately, I found 72. At the end of the book, you will find a list of negative qualities, arranged alphabetically, with corresponding page #s. So, if you're feeling anxious, flip to pg. 11. Judgmental, skip to pg. 47. Inadequate, pg. 57 might help. Moody, try pg. 75, etc., etc. Breathe is available on Lulu.

July - Carmen Miranda
For my birthday this year, a good friend gave me this incredible vessel. The lady had an empty plate atop her head and I added fruit!

August - Family Recipes
In August, a good friend wanted to make a book of his family recipes. I offered to put it together for him. It was fun. Each section began with a drawing, and each recipe had a photo. My friend was so grateful. But his recipes looked so delicious that putting the book together made me hungry.

August - What It's Really Like To Be An Octopus
This is a book I've wanted to write forever. Meet Theo and his family of Octopi. Each one has a special talent. Theo can wash eight dogs at a time. Cousin Diego can lift eight dumbbells. Uncle Oscar can catch numerous foul balls. Sister Petunia can give four manicures at a time, and Grandma can knit. And that's just six of the 11-member family. Available on Lulu.

September - Styling
On September 2, a minister ran a light and t-boned me. Luckily my only injury was a broken wrist in two places. Well, I wasn't about to go around with a neon cast for six weeks so I decorated my cast with fabric and paper.

October - Patchwork
When I visited my daughter in October she was in the process of having a chair recovered. Part of this process involved receiving over 50 swatches of beautiful fabrics from India. She asked if I wanted them. "Yes!" I replied and sewed them together into a 6' pillow for our bed.

November - Four Month Project -A Play House for the Granddaughters
This was an such a fun endeavor. From the street sign, to the clouds on the ceiling to the 'kitchen' to the Adirondack chairs on the front porch, everything came out so well. But the best part was that it was a complete surprise for my granddaughters, daughter and son-in-law. It was a lot of work, but when Lucy first walked through the door she took a deep breath and sighed "Ahh," it was beyond worth it.
