2020
While 2020, did not win an award for the best year, it created a wonderful creative space for me. During quarantine I learned to bake sourdough bread, I crocheted a patchwork top, I covered my sewing machine cabinet with retro pattern covers, I made a sign for my tailor, I recovered a chair, I curated a book of rendered watercolor rooms, I started a daily email filled with Covid jokes! And I made postcards of our travels.
Here are three projects that were truly my favorites.
Book Table
The Book Table came about one afternoon when I was looking online for rendered watercolor rooms. I found one with a stack of colorful books stacked next to a sofa and decided to create something similar.

I chose books from my favorite authors and artists. A friend cut 1" thick slabs of plywood for me, I glued two of the pieces together to make an 11"x13"x2" 'book'. Next came the book pages. I downloaded them from the internet and, using Modge-Podge, attached them.

After that, I started the spines. They were a bit harder to fashion because most books do not have images of the spines online. So I had to use my imagination and make spines that thought were fitting. Finally, came the covers. which, presented their own issues as the books were larger than the paper I printed on. In the end, I created 16 novels and nine art books.

56 postcards

In 2018, our daughter Mackenzie and her husband Blake embarked on a trip of a lifetime. When they returned, Mackenzie created postcards of all their travels. After seeing what a great job she did, I decided to make and frame postcards of our travels over the past several years.

After I framed the original postcards, and because I'm such an overachiever, I decided to create a book titled 56 Postcards book as well. The book includes all the postcards shown below, plus a narrative of what happened on the trip, and a stamp from each country.

Artist Self Portraits
This came about during the book table project. When I was in the midst of making a faux David Hockney's book I came across a hilarious self-portrait of him on the back cover. This completely inspired me to create a melange of self-portraits of 12 of my favorite artists. I was lucky to find both images of the artists and in most cases, their signatures. The finished piece measures about 48"x30", appropriately hangs in my studio, and makes me smile each time I walk by!
